España ha ganado el concurso en dos ocasiones, primero en 1968 con la canción «La, la, la», cantada por Massiel, y de nuevo en 1969, cuando «Vivo cantando», de Salomé, participó en un empate a cuatro con Francia, Holanda y el Reino Unido. El concurso de 1969 en Madrid es la única vez que España ha sido anfitriona del evento, ya que el sorteo se realizó después del empate a cuatro de 1969 y el concurso de 1970 fue organizado por los Países Bajos.
